Sunday, July 21 | 10:15 - 11:45 a.m.

The discipline of Records Management (RM) originally focused on protecting "records." RM evolved to Records and Information Management (RIM) as business needs changed to include the management of all information. Using case studies, this session will highlight successes in using the Information Lifecycle Model (ILM) to collaborate with technical and non-technical groups to successfully define policies and purge "non records" from email systems, shared drives, personal drives, and other systems. In a workshop setting, participants will use the ILM to recommend retention for email systems. The session will conclude with guidance for applying the ILM Model to non-record information, monitoring its implementation, and planning for its sustainability.

Key Points You'll Learn:

  • Define an Information Lifecycle Model (ILM) in which all information has a retention period
  • Develop an action plan for applying the ILM
  • Monitor implementation of the ILM and plan for sustainability
